Bring your scrapbooks to life

Do you want to bring your scrapbook to life? One way to jazz up your book of memories is to add some pizzazz with 3D embellishments. There are plenty of other ways to have your scrapbook pages look fantastic and embellishments are just one of many ways to add dimension to your pages and make them 'pop'. The most obvious way to add dimension to your scrapbook is to purchase three-dimensional embellishments from your local scrapbooking retailer. These embellishments are beautiful and have unique textures and shapes. The problem with purchasing 3D embellishments is that they are often the most expensive embellishments in the store. Adding depth to your scrapbook shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. There are inexpensive ways to create the look you want if you use a little ingenuity. In your local craft store, you can find inexpensive 3D foam adhesive squares that are cheaper than buying 3D embellishments. Making your own embellishments is more fun - simply take one of these squares and affix it to the back of your item, stick the square to the page and voila! Depth is instantly added to your project. If you want to create pages that pop without spending all of your money on one or two pieces, consider creating your own. Collect the items that you will need to create your embellishments. You will want to have plenty of scraps of fabric and felt, as well as wire, felt flowers, small wooden rods, fiber, yarn, die cuts, cotton, and anything else you can think of to create with. Start by thinking of the color scheme you wish to use to create your item. Then think about the page it is going to be displayed on, and choose an item to create that is in line with the page theme. Start with a die cut and build your embellishment around it. If you are using a die cut of an animal or person, consider adding googgly eyes to it to start the process. Use fabric to add texture and bounce to the design. Be as creative as you possibly can! And do not forget about foam squares to add layers to your creation. One of the easiest ways to create texture and depth in your scrapbook is to add fibers to the pages. Purchase fun and lively fibers for your pages. One cute idea is to use the fibers to create a look where the pictures look like they are actually in frames and hanging from the wall. The fibers create the string that the picture is "hanging from" and the background paper creates the frame. Use a brad as the "nail." After having done so much work, you want to make sure that your photos are safe. Plan your pages with photo-safety in mind. Make sure that there are no stray wires or edges that could get caught on facing pages when the scrapbook is closed. You also want to store your 3D scrapbooks in an upright position to prevent the embellishments from getting crushed. There's no point in making things that pop up if you're going to squash them flat, after all!
